Constitution - Troupe #474
Article 1. Name and Purpose
Section 1
This organization shall be called Thespian Troupe 474 of the International Thespian Society, a branch of the Educational Theatre Association.
Section 2
Thespian Troupe #474 operates under the authority of the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation’s Francis Joseph Reitz High School associated student body and the guidelines set forth by the International Thespian Society (ITS).
Section 3
The purpose of this troupe shall be the advancement of standards of excellence in the theatre. More specifically, the troupe shall encourage students to attain a better mastery of the theatre arts and its supporting units.
Section 4
This organization forbids secrecy; membership to the International Thespian Society is given as recognition for meritorious work in the theatre arts and those persons are known as “inductees”.
Article 2. Membership
Section 1
Members will be categorized as interested Francis Joseph Reitz High School Students that are inducted or non-inductees, honorary members and the sponsor.
1. The secretary will maintain a list of members, their membership category and contact information.
Section 2
All active student members shall be regularly enrolled as students of Francis Joseph Reitz High School.
Section 3
All active members must have fulfilled the following requirements to apply for membership with the National Thespian Society:
1. Participated in at least two (2) full-length plays.
2. Have earned a minimum of ten (10) points, i.e., 100 hours of theatre work.
Section 4
Final authority concerning membership requirements shall be vested in the troupe sponsor, Mr. Justin McCullough.
Section 5
Honorary membership may be granted to adults for the extraordinary and worthy assistance in the promotion of the theatre in the school and community.
Article 3. Governing Board and Officers
Section 1
Francis Joseph Reitz High School Troupe #474 officers shall be elected by the members of the Thespian Troupe. The term of office is for one full school year. That term of office begins at Thespian Inductions. Elections shall occur during the April Thespian Meeting.
Section 2
Requirements for all officers are as follows: Each student must be an active member of the troupe for at least one school year, and at the time of election must be enrolled in grades 9-11 with a grade point of 2.0 or higher.
Section 3
The elected officers on the executive council are to have the following duties:
A. President: The President is responsible for running the ITS meetings, being the outward face for its ITS troupe and its voice, presides over fundraising, attends all meetings, organizes productions and club events, and to ensure the executive council is performing all their duties and to assist when needed
B. Vice President: The Vice President performs the duties of the President when the President is absent, organizes advertising campaigns for each show and events, ex-officio member of committees, attend all troupe meetings, runs school-wide and community plans.
C. Secretary: The Secretary records agenda and ideas in a binder in each meeting, makes copies, types up flyers, sends invitations, sends thank you notes, is the liaison between the Executive Council and the other members of the troupe and keeps a record of attendance at troupe meetings.
D. Treasurer: The Treasurer is responsible for fundraiser money, working at all fundraisers, assisting with seeking donations, funds from businesses, and collecting field trip money and other fees.
Section 4
The duties of the sponsor will be to oversee all troupe activities, to be the final authority in selection of new members and to be the guide and inspiration of the group.
Article 4. Meetings and Attendance
Section 1
Meetings shall be held once a month, typically the 4th Wednesday of the month, after school.
Section 2
Special meetings may be called by the sponsor. Biweekly meetings for officers are necessary. Meetings will be announced at a minimum of twenty-four hours prior to meeting times.
Section 3
A quorum shall be fifty percent of the active membership and must include two officers.
Section 4
Any member, who is absent four troupe meetings per school year or four rehearsals during a current production, without an excuse considered valid by the sponsor, is grounds for temporary suspension in membership/role
Section 5
Re-admittance due to suspension must have the consent of the sponsor, Justin McCullough
Article 5. Dues
Section 1
There shall be no dues for the troupe except as provided by the InternationalThespian Society Board of Trustees, unless determined by a two thirds vote of the membership at the regularly yearly election.
Article 6. Amendments
Section 1
All amendments to this constitution must have the vote of two-thirds vote of the officers. The amendment will be posted for review by the Troupe and approved by the majority at a meeting designated for approval of the amendment. This constitution and its amendments shall be subject to change according to any or all requirements of the International Thespian Society.
Article 7. Adoption
Section 1
Two thirds of those attending the adoption meeting are required to adopt the Constitution of the Francis Joseph Reitz High School Thespian Troupe #474.
Section 2
Francis Joseph Reitz High School Thespian Troupe Sponsor, upon adaptation of the Constitution, the sponsor shall have the authority to appoint each person if no students are elected or an office becomes vacant.
Section 3
Adoption: When interested students forming the Francis Joseph Reitz High School Thespian Troupe agree to the attached three pages consisting of the Constitution and have been duly recorded as the framers of this Constitution, it shall go into effect. We, the undersigned, present on this day the Constitution of Thespian Troupe # 474 and declare that this Constitution has been adopted by a majority of all the organizing members present.

By-Laws - Troupe #474
Article 1. Purpose
Section 1 - Mission
To promote the theatre program and shows on the campus of Francis Joseph Reitz High School and to develop the advancement of standards of excellence in the theatre
Section 2 - Vision
Through the Thespian Troupe #474 and its members, to develop a group to promote and educate students about the various activities involved with the theatre and its support units and to advance theatre on the campus.
Section 3 - Strategies
Strategies involved in supporting the Mission and Vision of the Thespian Troupe 474 are:
1. Promoting theatre and it’s shows on campus and in the community.
2. Do fundraising to support club and theatre expenses.
3. Helping with the maintenance and keeping theatre clean with periodic work parties.
Article 2. Attendance
Section 1
Regular school meetings may be held after school hours unless special notice is posted to the change of time.
Article 3. Inductions
Section 1
The time and place of an induction as well as the type of ceremony is determined by the sponsor.
Section 2
Only inducted members will plan and prepare the induction ceremony.
Section 3
Inductions shall be held a minimum of once each year. Inductions will be heldafter the beginning and before the end of the regular school terms.
Section 4
An inducted Vice-President of the Thespian Troupe #474 or an inducted officer will be held responsible for the training of the speakers at the induction ceremony, scheduling and rehearsing said speakers, as well as taking care of the stage and induction properties.
Article 4. Troupe Activities
Section 1
The troupe is not a secret organization. So, Francis Joseph Reitz High School faculty and students interested in theatre, as well as honorary members and alumni, shall be invited to its meetings.
Section 2
The troupe shall sponsor at least one “Good Neighbor” program a year for the purpose of establishing good relationships with dramatic groups in the Evansville Vanderburgh School District. These “Good Neighbor” programs will include a field trip to a nearby school to see a production and visit from a neighboring school to see a Reitz Theatre production.
Article 5. Point Award System
Section 1
The theatre director/sponsor will determine the exact number of points to be awarded for all theatrical and non-theatrical participation. Projects deserving points that are not listed on the International Thespian Society’s point system shall be awarded at the sponsor’s discretion.
Section 2
Points will be awarded as suggested by the point system of the International Thespian Society.
Article 6. Elections
Section 1
Officers announce their interest to be a Thespian Officer to the sponsor in the month of March for the next school year.
Section 2
Selection of officers will first begin with a survey by members present at a meeting in April according to the following procedures:
A. An advisory vote will be taken in secret ballot from of the members present and the ballots given to the sponsor.
B. Advisory vote will be reviewed by the sponsor who will make the final decision to the election of Officers.
Article 7. Conflict Resolution
Section 1
In the event that issues or conflict arises between a Thespian and a Sponsor which cannot be solved through communication between the two parties, the issue should be referred to the school administration for resolution.
Article 8. Productions
Section 1
When a student at F.J. Reitz High School is involved in a production, he/she are considered a member of ITS either active or inductees
Section 2
Students in productions at F.J. Reitz High School Theatre who are involved in ANY illegal activities on or off campus shall be prohibited from the production. If the transgression occurs at the year’s end, the ban will not roll over into the following year, but the student will be scrutinized for casting or crew responsibilities for following productions
Section 3
Students involved in production casting will have to maintain their grades. Each student cannot be failing any two (2) classes. Rule is situation specific! If the performer is failing two (2) or more classes they will have to attend mandatory tutoring to improve their grades. If grades do not improve that is grounds for dismissal. Grades will have an impact on casting for the following show.

Two thirds of those attending the adoption meeting are required to adopt the Constitution and Bylaws of the Francis Joseph Reitz High School Thespian Troupe 474.
Section 2
Francis Joseph Reitz High School Troupe Sponsor Upon adaptation of the Constitution and Bylaws, the sponsor shall appoint the initial Officers of the Thespian Troupe. The Sponsor shall have the authority to appoint each person if no students are elected or an officer resigns.
Section 3
Adoption: When interested students forming the Francis Joseph Reitz High School Thespian Troupe agree to the attached six pages consisting of the Constitution and Bylaws and have been duly recorded as the framers of this Constitution and Bylaws, it shall go into effect. We, the undersigned, present on this day the Constitution of Thespian Troupe # 474 and declare that this Constitution and Bylaws has been adopted by a majority of all the organizing members present.
